Watch Care Guide

At Aldric Voss, we believe that a fine mechanical timepiece is not merely a purchase — it is a long-term companion. With the right care, your watch will reward you with decades of reliable, precise performance. This guide provides practical advice on maintaining your timepiece in exceptional condition.

General Daily Care

  • Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures. Prolonged heat or cold can affect the movement's accuracy and the integrity of seals and materials.
  • Remove your watch before engaging in strenuous physical activity, contact sports, or heavy manual work.
  • Keep your watch away from strong magnetic fields, including speakers, magnetic bag closures, and medical equipment such as MRI machines. Magnetic fields can significantly affect the accuracy of a mechanical movement.
  • Avoid contact with harsh chemicals, perfumes, colognes, and cleaning products. Always apply these before putting on your watch.
  • If your watch comes into contact with sweat or salt water, wipe it clean promptly with a soft, dry cloth.

Water Resistance

Not all timepieces in the Aldric Voss collection carry the same water resistance rating. Please refer to the product description for your specific model. As a general guide:

Rating What It Means
No rating indicated Keep away from all moisture. Suitable for dry use only.
3 ATM / 30m Splash resistant. Suitable for light rain, not swimming or submersion.
5 ATM / 50m Suitable for swimming and light water activities. Not for diving.
10 ATM / 100m Suitable for swimming and snorkelling. Not for scuba diving.

Important: Water resistance ratings reflect static pressure under controlled conditions. Resistance may decrease over time, particularly if the watch has been exposed to impacts or temperature changes. We recommend having the water resistance re-tested annually if you regularly expose your watch to water.

Strap & Bracelet Care

Leather straps: Wipe with a dry or lightly damp cloth after wear. Avoid prolonged water exposure, as moisture degrades leather over time. Condition periodically with a quality leather care product to prevent cracking. Rotating between straps will extend the life of each one.

Metal bracelets: Clean with a soft brush and mild soapy water, paying attention to the links and clasp. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a lint-free cloth to prevent water marks.

Rubber and silicone straps: Rinse with clean water after exposure to sweat or salt. Dry thoroughly before storing or wearing again.

Cleaning the Case & Crystal

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the case and crystal regularly. This is sufficient for day-to-day maintenance.
  • For a more thorough clean, use a cotton swab lightly dampened with clean water to reach the crevices around the lugs, crown, and case back.
  • Never use abrasive cloths, paper towels, or chemical cleaning products on the case or crystal, as these can scratch or permanently damage the finish and coating.

Mechanical Movement Care

Mechanical watches — both automatic and manual-wind — require a degree of attention that quartz watches do not. To keep your movement performing at its best:

  • Automatic watches are kept wound by the natural motion of the wrist during daily wear. If you do not wear your watch for an extended period, the power reserve will deplete and the watch will stop. Simply wearing it again or giving the crown a gentle wind will restart the movement.
  • Manual-wind watches should be wound at approximately the same time each day, ideally when not being worn. Wind gently until you feel resistance — do not force the crown beyond this point.
  • For extended storage, wind the crown gently every two to three weeks to keep the movement lubricated and the oils from settling.
  • We recommend a professional service by a qualified watchmaker every 3 to 5 years to clean, lubricate, and inspect the movement. This is the most important step in ensuring the long-term health of your timepiece.

Storage

  • Store your watch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. UV exposure can fade dials and degrade strap materials over time.
  • Use the original watch box or a soft watch pouch to protect against dust and scratches during storage.
  • Avoid storing your watch near strong magnets or electronic devices that emit magnetic fields.
  • Do not store multiple watches loosely together — cases and crystals can scratch one another.
